How to Give Yourself a Lovely Facial at Home

June 16, 2015 By Andrea Hutchins

I know we would all prefer to be having a weekly facial but whether it’s an issue of time or money it’s not always possible. So, here is a way to achieve the same deep cleansing and even some of the spa feeling of a salon facial. First of all book yourself half an hour in the bathroom. Pre-book it, tell everyone in the household that you are not to be disturbed, arrange for the the kids to be busy, make a ‘do not disturb’ sign for the door – whatever needs to be done to protect that half hour of ‘you’ time. If possible have your favourite relaxing music playing in the background and then here goes…
1. Tie back you hair, put on a bath robe, whatever you need to feel relaxed. Make sure you have something on your feet as your body heat will go down as you relax and you don’t want chilly toes.
2. Cleanse with your daily cleanser. Mix a little Clarifying Cleanser with water and apply all over the face using small circular motions. Use upwards sweeping movement on the neck, small circular movements along the jaw line and around the nose, long stroking movements with alternative hands up and along the cheeks and using two fingers from one hand and one from the other make scissor movements across your forehead. Remove cleanser and dirt brought to the surface of the skin with damp cotton wool, sponges, face cloths or muslins.
2. Tone. Apply Aloe Vera Toner to damp cotton wool or spray directly onto face with eyes closed. Toning helps remove any traces of product and dirt brought to the surface of the skin, stimulates good circulation and helps balance skin to the right Ph level needed to maintain strong healthy skin.
3. Exfoliate. Distribute a pea sized amount of Honey Scrub between finger tips and apply all over face and neck with a ‘rain dance’ effect tapping product all over. Then with brisk circular motions work product over face and neck. This will help clear dull skin of excess sebum, sweat, oil and dead skin cells to reveal more radiant looking skin. Remove with water and then if you have a tissue to hand or a face towel, pat your skin dry to remove any excess moisture.
4. Tone. Apply Honey Toner to help clear the skin of any remaining scrub and ready it for the mask.
5. Mask. Apply Green Tea Mask either with fingers or with a clean blusher brush for an extra treat. Apply to face and neck avoiding the eye area and leave for 10-20 minutes. The mask will draw out deep impurities and tighten fine lines. While the mask is doing its work why not have a quick bath or perhaps do a foot spa (will do another blog about how to do that) or a hand spa (again will post how to do that soon). To remove the mask why not try the hot towel method. Dip a small towel in a bowl of hot water, wring out and apply to face and neck. The heat will help loosen the mask and also work at opening the pores and release the dirt.
6. Tone – again! Have a look at your skin – it should be really glowing by now!
7. Serum. Apply Anti-Ageing Serum to face with finger tips dancing product over face and neck and then gently rub in. You will only need a small amount of serum which is packed full of anti-ageing ingredients to boost the effects of your moisturiser.
8. Eye Cream. Apply a small amount of Anti-age Eye Cream product with your ring finger as this has the lightest touch of all your fingers. Only apply to the socket area as your blinking motion will automatically bring the product inwards. If you apply the cream right up to the lash line you can risk overloading the eye causing puffiness.
9. Moisturiser. Apply Rejuvinating Night Cream and gently massage in. A night cream will generally be slightly heavier to withstand the wear and tear of your face rubbing against your pillow and have a slightly higher plant oil content to help the skin repair overnight.
10. Finish Off with Pressure points. Your face has 21 pressure points so why not choose a few and apply pressure with a few fingers whilst making small circular movements. Points to choose from could be: Middle of forehead outwards, middle of hairline outwards, between eyebrows, end of eyebrows, corner of eyes, cheekbones, sides of the bridge of the nose, nostrils, middle of top and bottom lips, middle of chin, corners of chin, gliding along jaw bone to ears ending at temples. Finish with hands over eyes for a few second and then release.
11. You are now finished. Glide out of your bathroom feeling like the goddess you truly are!
